The game-changing introduction of National Lottery funding in 1997 catapulted British cycling into a league of its own and brought about the creation of this daring design. But it wasn’t always this way. When Sir Chris Hoy made his international debut at the 1996 European Under-23 Championships, the future Olympic icon had to borrow his team tracksuit. With no funding to send officials, Hoy and his teammates travelled to Moscow alone, carrying their bikes and a single set of race wheels. Astonishingly, Hoy was working part-time at a Texaco, selling—of all things—National Lottery tickets, the very resource that would transform his career and the sport forever.
 
Fast forward to Team GB’s golden dominance in Beijing 2008, the unforgettable triumphs of London 2012, and countless victories since. National Lottery funding has been at the heart of British cycling’s remarkable journey, driving success and shaping the future of the sport.
