Heritage Jersey: British Cycling Federation 1995 'Superman'

Impsport are thrilled to launch a collection of heritage jerseys that combine classic retro designs with the latest in cycling fabrics and a modern fit.
 
The lineup includes the iconic 1995 British Cycling Federation (BCF) jersey, famously worn by Graeme Obree in his world championship victory in the individual pursuit. The legendary "Superman position," pioneered by innovator Obree and described as feeling like "being in a spitfire," was later found to have to have only minimal impact, suggesting that his success riding with outstretched arms was down to strength, stamina and talent and not marginal aero gains.
 
This same BCF design was also sported by Chris Boardman in his record-breaking 1996 hour ride. Boardman used a version of the Superman position, covering 56.375 km (35.035 miles) in one hour, breaking the record and making the custom-designed Lotus bike he was riding equally famous in the process.
 
The Superman position was eventually banned by the UCI as part of an effort to standardise positions and equipment. Nevertheless, Obree’s ingenuity and Boardman’s determination have made this era an enduring part of cycling folklore.
